New Year, New Plans: Setting SMART Goals
Setting goals is a great way to find direction and clarity. At Eximus, our team wraps up the year by making goals for the upcoming year. It’s the perfect way to track how we’re doing and ensure we continue to be at the top of our game.
Making SMART goals gives you a clear game plan for achieving what you want to do. Here’s a quick rundown of what SMART means (with examples):
Specific: Identify what you want to achieve by answering the five W’s. (Who? What? Where? When? Why?)
For example: I want to buy real estate in Abbotsford before January 15, 2015.
Measurable: Set criteria for gauging your progress.
Next week, I’ll contact Eximus about setting up showings (or) I’ll search for five homes I’d like to see in person based on an MLS search before next Friday.
Attainable: Is it realistic for you to achieve this goal?
If I am already saving for a down payment, then yes, it’s likely I can meet this goal. If my financial situation isn’t ideal, I should connect with an Eximus agent or a mortgage broker.
Realistic: Does this goal matter? Is it worthwhile? Does it support where you want to be in life?
Yes, I’d like to buy real estate in Abbotsford because my spouse and I want to start a family and live closer to my job.
Timely: What’s the deadline for completing your goal?
I want to buy real estate in Abbotsford before January 15, 2015.
Reviewing goals with the SMART criteria makes it easier to figure out what you want to accomplish and how you’re going to do it.
Happy goal setting!
