Five fun summer things to do in (and around) the Fraser Valley
Take part in Canada’s largest air show! On August 9, 10 and 11, you can see a fun lineup of flying and ground displays, including the Snowbirds, the Canadian Air Forces’ CF18 Hornet demo, the WWII Warbirds and the AV8FX Pyrotechnics group. Come out to the Abbotsford International Airport and celebrate aviation excellence and aerospace advancement with the rest of the community. Tickets are available online and at Save-on-Foods and PriceSmart Foods locations across the Lower Mainland.
Owned and operated by a local family, B.C.’s biggest water park is open and ready for you to visit. Cultus Lake Waterpark has something for everyone to enjoy – from shallow play areas for small children to awe-inspiring slides for older daredevils. The park also has shops, restaurants, picnic tables and BBQ rentals, and provides life jackets to children and less-confident swimmers for free. Open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (with extended hours of 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. until August 18), the water park also features brand new slides, like Bazooka Bowl and The Boomerang, and fun events like their Night Sliding Concerts. Visiting Cultus Lake Waterpark is a fun way to soak up the sun.
Go-carts…
. . . Mini-golf and more at Castle Fun Park! Perfect your putt at one of the three mini-golf courses or take your best swing in their batting cages. Race your friends around the go-cart track and see how many points you can rack up (and prizes you can take home) by playing the arcade and skill games. It’s a fantastic way to beat the heat.
The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) is an annual fair with plenty of activities, rides, displays, food and shows for everyone. Since it began in 1910, the PNE has become the largest annual ticketed event in the province, bringing in more than 900,000 visitors during its 17-day run. Make sure to check out the Superdogs show, the RCMP Musical Ride, the Summer Nights Concerts, and this year’s newest addition, Genghis Khan: The Exhibition. The PNE is open from Saturday, August 17 until Monday, September 2, from 11 a.m. until late (weather permitting).
