16698743_mAre you ready to take the plunge and buy a home of your own? Feeling overwhelmed about all your options?

There are all kinds of homes for all kinds of tastes and preferences. Make time to reflect on and consider what qualities you’d like in your new house. Deciding on your “must-haves” and “maybes” will help narrow down which houses to consider.

Here are a few helpful things to do to figure out what you want in a home:

  1. Think about your current place: What works for you? What doesn’t?
  1. Create a list of your “must-haves.” “Must-haves” are the things that will make or break whether you buy a home – location, home type, number of bathrooms and bedrooms and price are all a few of the factors you need to determine before you start looking at homes on the market.
  1. Create a list of your “maybes.” These are features that you admire on home decorating websites or real estate television shows but won’t factor into whether or not you buy the home. They tend to be aesthetic features, like finishings, appliances and flooring that you can easily change in the future if you’d like.
  1. Get to know the neighbourhood you’re interested in. Talk to others who live there. Go for a drive and take a look for yourself. Check out what amenities, parks and green spaces are available.
  1. Talk to an Eximus realtor about what you’re looking for in a home. If you’re open to it, we can help you narrow down what you’re looking for and suggest different options that you may not have considered yet. Contact us today!
