Moving to a new home is a huge – and, let’s be honest, stressful – task! Style at Home has a great article with 21 tips for an easy move. We’re passing along some of our favourite tips to keep in mind for your next move.

  1. Get organized ahead of time and figure out a moving strategy: Planning ahead always makes things move well – especially when you’re got a backup plan in case the weather is bad
  2. Keep your movers in the loop: More communication is always better. Let them know about all the big, heavy stuff you’re taking with you, so they’re properly prepared and can give you an accurate quote.
  3. Make a packing kit: Keeping necessary moving supplies in a central location will save so many headaches. No more scrambling for a marker or hunting down tape!
  4. Find a sitter for the day: You love your kids and pets, but it may be a little easier to get settled into your new home without them underfoot. Find someone who’s willing to keep them entertaining and cared for while you’re hauling boxes and organizing rooms.
  5. Treat your movers: Whether you’ve enlisted family, friends, or professionals, provide food and drinks for everyone who’s helping you. They took a day away from their lives to help you get situated – it’s the least you can do for them.

Is hunting down moving boxes and packing supplies the biggest hassle in the whole process? Check out Frogbox, a company who will drop off (and pick up) reusable moving boxes (along with other packing supplies). If you’re looking for a green alternative to cardboard boxes, you definitely want to check them out!
