Four Ways To Find Easy Exercise In Abbotsford
Four Ways To Stay Active In Abbotsford
Rain or shine, there are plenty of ways to stay active when you live in the “city in the country”. Keeping fit doesn’t always mean you need to spend hours in the gym or buy expensive work out DVD’s. A great way to mix fresh air and exercise together, is to look for ways to be active in your neighbourhood. Whether it’s a park that is fitted with a jungle gym or finding a trail that you can stop and do step-ups on benches along the way, there are always ways to fit more activity into your routine. The advantage of working out outside means you’re exposed to more of the beautiful scenery that our parks and lakes have here in the Fraser Valley. Here’s a quick list of ideas for easy exercise whether you’re stumped on how to switch up your routine or eager to soak up the sunshine (while it lasts) while getting the family out of the house.
Mill Lake – It’s an easy choice because it has something for everyone: An outdoor pool, a water park, playgrounds, trails, fields and plenty of benches for people-watching. This will keep you, the kids and the grand parents happily entertained for hours! Run, walk or cycle your way around the two-kilometer lakeside path. Parking is plentiful, too. There are a number of lots along the perimeter of the trail, and it’s a short jaunt away from SevenOaks Mall.
Discovery Trail – Enjoy as much or as little of the 30 kilometer, all-season path that connects Abbotsford from east to west, as you’d like! The Discovery Trail is perfect for leisurely strollers and adventurous hikers alike! Walk, run, roller blade or cycle through the trail, which runs beside playgrounds and picnic benches – perfect pit stops where you can rest your legs before carrying on.
Abby Grind – Ready to get your heart pumping, sweat pouring and legs shaking? Give the Abby Grind a try! Growing in popularity, this steep climb is only 2 kilometers long (each way) with elevation gains of 406 meters. It’s technically the first lookout on the Glen River Trail, which you can tackle if you’re prepared to keep heading up. Bring a bottle of water, douse yourself in bug spray and lace up a good pair of shoes before enjoying one of Mother Nature’s stair climbers.
Albert Dyck Lake – Craving time by the water without driving to the ocean? Albert Dyck Lake is a man-made lake created specially for wake-boarding and water skiing. It also features a sandy beach, perfect for picnics and a swim after hiking the Albert Dyck Trail. Home to the Fraser Valley Water Ski Club and Valley Wake Park, you can sign up for wake-boarding camps and try stand up paddle boarding, too!
